A small yet handy cheat sheet for mod_rewrite. The most used items to build a mod_rewrite pattern.

Ok, so its not a sheet...its a blog post. Regardless, I often find myself on the hunt for Apache Rewrite flags and I've found a nice one at Ilovejackdaniels. Before diving into the cheat sheet, its important to know how RewriteRules work (order of processing and whatnot). I've prettied up the image from Apache.org as pictures tell 1,000 words (click for a larger version):

Been having to do quite a bit of mod-rewriting lately, but sometimes I forget some of the flags, and what regular expressions can be used. It annoyed me that I would have to go looking through references, I wanted some sort of cheat sheet, I didn’t need full explanations. After a little bit of searching, I came across an image that was a cheat sheet. I have bookmarked it, but thought I would post it here in case anyone else would like it…

The mod_rewrite cheat sheet is a one-page reference sheet, listing flags for the RewriteRule and RewriteCond directives, list of server variables, a regular expression guide and several examples of common rules.

This article is meant to prepare us for the advanced mod_rewrite examples that are soon to be published. The upcoming article is going to be examples using mod_rewrite to achieve some crazy stuff… Here the focus is on identifying mod_rewrite variables and defining the limits of the module by checking the mod_rewrite source code.
